1988: This "burnout" near Lake Abundance, north of Silver Gate, Montana, was also famously photographed by Craig Fujii, of the Seattle Times. It appeared the following year on the Cover of National Geographic.
We were going to burn out as the fire approached our safety zone, so they sent the press home. Mr. Rogge said to Craig, "stick around if you can" so I guess as any good news photographer, Craig pleaded for just a little time as they slowly make their way out. edit
